Garden of Joy – Grand Opening of Three Community Gardens
The Garden of Joy, a project of Hands To Help, Inc. a 501 (c) 3 charitable organization, and advocate of utilizing unused land to benefit people, announces the GRAND OPENING for Season 2009, of our 3 Community Gardens, on Saturday, June 20th, beginning at 10:30am.
10:30am: 715 Cookman Avenue, official opening, and ribbon cutting by the 2 year old twin daughters of the property owners, Sean & Don Hollingsworth.
11:00am: Trinity Episcopal Church, 503 Asbury Ave., ribbon cutting by Garden of Joy club member, Judith Cusack, and a guest of the Church’s food pantry, who will benefit from our produce;
11:30am: Springwood Avenue (corner DeWitt), ribbon cutting by Garden of Joy club member, Danye Bray-Shal, and a Sisters’ Academy child (also participants in our project).
Also to be acknowledged at our Opening: Artist Norma Tolliver, of Main Ave. Galleria in Ocean Grove, who created and donated our beautiful Garden of Joy signs; Kevin Yu, our most loyal and reliable teen volunteer; Sean and Don Hollingsworth, who generously allowed us to use their 715 Cookman Ave space for our Community Garden; Fr. David Stout, who got us started in 2007; Terry Reidy, City Manager, and Marilyn Schlossbach, Restauranteur, our loyal behind-the-scenes boosters since 2007; our friend and supporter, Michelle Knapik, Sustainability Committee; and of course the children, board members, volunteers and other supporters of the Garden of Joy Projects!
