The ShowRoom is First in State to Premiere “Outrage”
Asbury Park Cinema is the First Venue in New Jersey to Screen Controversial Kirby Dick Documentary.
The ShowRoom, Asbury Park’s independent theater and multi-purpose venue, will be the first movie theater in New Jersey to screen “Outrage.” The controversial new documentary, directed by Kirby Dick, exposes the hypocrisy of closeted politicians who campaign and introduce legislation against the LGBT community.
“Outrage” will make its New Jersey debut June 5 and 7 at the ShowRoom located at 708 Cookman Ave. in downtown Asbury Park. The June-5 and -7 screenings align with New Jersey’s 18th Annual LGBTI Pride Celebration; Asbury Park plays host to the Pride Weekend festivities each year. Given the buzz surrounding the 90-minute documentary and the controversial nature of the film, The ShowRoom may offer an extended run of “Outrage” the second weekend in June.
“We are thrilled to be the first venue in New Jersey to screen “Outrage,” said Michael Sodano, co-owner of The ShowRoom. “The ShowRoom is a destination for entertaining and intriguing film, cultural stimulation and community. Given the topical nature of “Outrage,” we think it is a relevant and important film to screen for audiences from around the state – no matter what side of the issues one may be on.”
Released in May 2009 by Magnolia Pictures, “Outrage” exposes the political decisions of some of America’s most infamous, closeted government officials. It features analysis from prominent members of the gay community including Congressman Barney Frank, former NJ Governor Jim McGreevey, activist Larry Kramer and openly gay Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin. The documentary film questions the ethics of outing closeted officials, the media’s complicity in keeping their double lives a secret and the harm that has been afflicted on millions of Americans by closeted politicians.
“Outrage” (not yet rated) will premiere on Friday, June 5 at 7:00 p.m. at The ShowRoom. Further screenings are as follows:
Friday, June 5, 9:00 p.m.
Sunday, June 7, 4:00 p.m.
Depending on audience demand, “Outrage” may return to The ShowRoom for additional screenings from June 11 to 14. For more information, please visit www.theshowroomap.com or call 732-502-0472. To buy tickets online, please visit theshowroomap.com.
