Brickwall Tavern
The Brickwall Tavern, located at 522 Cookman Ave has been a weeknight staple since we moved to Asbury Park. The bar/restaurant offers American style fare, with items such as burgers, salads, a fish of the day, mac and cheese and buffalo wings. Beverages include a variety of offerings, from imported beers to $2.50 PBR’s. The wine list is often changing, with reasonably priced house wine’s from $4 house wines to the ‘usual suspects’, usually featuring a few regional wines not often seen on Jersey shore menus.
The Brickwall patrons are the most diverse crowed of any Asbury Park restaurant, attracting PBR drinking hipsters to Mercedes driving suburbanites. The staff have been around a while and run a fairly tight ship – food comes out in a reasonable amount of time and drinks are always flowing.
Thursdays through Sundays during the warmer months, expect a 45 wait for a table. During the cooler months, the restaurant is usually full with regulars and locals, with waiting times more manageable.
My only complaint with the Brickwall is the changing menu – not always for the better. My once favorite goat cheese and pine nut salad has been changed to sunflower seed and goat cheese, with noticeably less goat cheese. For a $12 salad, I want my pine nuts back.
Regardless of my few complaints, The Brickwall is still our regular place to take friends and family for an affordable night out (2 people with 2 dinners and 4 drinks for under $50).
