Asbury Park’s restaurant row does not disappoint. In fact, over the weekend, I was asked to recommend a restaurant and was momentarily stumped. It was not that I could not think of a great location, but rather, so many cam e to mind that I had to take a deep breath and say, “ Ok, let’s narrow it down. What are you in the mood for?”
The truth is, it is difficult to have a bad meal on Cookman Avenue and in Asbury Park in general. Asbury Park, always known for its’ association with the music scene has more recently become known for its “Restaurant Row”. Cookman Avenue has become the main drag in the Jersey Shore’s culinary corridor.
From a light lunch to a special occasion dinner party, you don’t have to travel very far. Now that ReVision Theater is in the Downtown, it is official. The best evening out in the North Shore region is Asbury Park.
I am not a food critic. I sit solidly in the “I know what I like” column. The couple I mentioned earlier was interested in a quiet unrushed dinner. It was first night and the snow was making Cookman Avenue look decidedly Rockwellian. I suggested Restaurant Plan B. The Cookman Avenue Bistro offers an upscale menu with an urban edge. Plan B packs a lot of experience into its size. The staff is warm and welcoming but utterly professional. Owner Jeff Haveson has made it his mission to combine Urban Style with local Charm. Local artists cover the warm brick walls, but if that isn’t to your liking, sit by the large front window and watch the world go by.
But décor isn’t what Plan B is about. The truth is, it is about the food and the experience. This winter, Haveson and Plan B offer what may be the best deal in town. A five course prix fix dinner Tuesdays-Thursdays for only $25. I admit it, I am partial to the black angus burger. Like I said, I have simple tastes. But visit to Plan B is not complete without one of the delicious home made desserts.
Check out their full menu at www.restaurantplanb.com. Plan B is definitely a first rate Plan A for a great meal this winter.
